So this is it. The final editorial of the semester. We’ve come a long way here at The Hurricane these past few months. One addition we particularly enjoy is the addiction series. It only makes sense, then, to couple that with the onset of finals season.
To the readers of The Miami Hurricane:
The Editorial Board would like to offer our sincerest apologies for writing in this space last Thursday that you should go to the Rathskeller to watch last Thursday's game against Georgia Tech.
This space is reserved for the discussion of serious issues. Wide ranging issues that have a weighty impact on the entire student body. So this is our call to action: Go to the Rathskeller tonight.
The ensuing battle over the past two weeks has shown that both sides are strongly committed to what they believe in. We propose a Third Way. Government should get out of the business of participating in the religious construct that is marriage.
For the academic year 2007-2008, the UMPD sent out five crime alerts. The largest amount of time between approximate time of crime to the alert being sent out was less than 48 hours. So far in the 2008-2009 academic school year, three have been sent out. One took two days, one took four and the most recent took almost a full week. That's unacceptable.
Next time you’re in class, look around…check out all the different types of people you see. Here at The Miami Hurricane, we’ve devised a list of stereotypical students you most likely have encountered at one point or another.
But where does all the vibe go now that the 2008 election is over? Is everyday supposed to be the start to the new beginning? Today just feels like any other Thursday.
Democracy shouldn't be easy, of course, but it also shouldn't be a choice between exercising a constitutional right and graduating, or putting food on the table. The United States should declare election day a national holiday.
It is rare in American electoral history that citizens get the opportunity to go to the polls and vote for a transformative figure. Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt, Kennedy and Reagan come to mind. Sen. Barack Obama is one of those transformative figures.
Many people aren't sure what they want. On that same note, people are positive that they do not want any similarities to the previous eight years. John McCain is a significant break from President Bush. He has experience working with the Democratic Party and knows what it means to be centrist.
