"We’re trying to play our best baseball at the end of the season, that’s what we need to do," Miami head Gino DiMare said. "I think we’re doing a pretty good job of that. I don’t think we’re playing our best baseball, but we’re playing the best we have all year."
Another year of Miami sports is almost in the books. From the gridiron to the hardwood to the diamond, there has been no shortage of excitement in Coral Gables. Let’s review what took place this past year for Miami athletics.
“That’s a real character-builder,” Miami head coach Gino DiMare said. “I challenged the team to see what they were made of. It’s tough to play an hour after that game the way it ended on the road. We knew it would take a total team effort, especially on the pitching side. I’m proud of our guys for the way that they fought and stuck together.”
“It’s just an honor being a part of this program and the history we have,” Wong said. “We have a great team this year and last year too, and I feel like it’s great to see how we came up. I’m just appreciative, and I just love this team. “
“That was a heck of a win,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said. “The guys really rallied in the second half. We made some adjustment with what we were doing offensively, and we really stepped up defensively.”
With its best-ever performance in the NCAA Tournament last year (reaching the Elite Eight), Miami is looking for even further glory in this season’s rendition. It was selected as a No. 5 seed, doubling its seed number from last year’s No. 10. Here is what the ‘Canes can do to maximize their success in this year’s March Madness.
“I don’t consider them a middling ACC team,” Larrañaga said. “I consider [Wake Forest head coach] Steve Forbes, his staff and that program really in a great place because they’re playing extremely well throughout the season.”
With a rebound, the ‘Canes (24-6, 15-5 ACC) sealed their second-ever ACC regular season championship on Saturday night at the Watsco Center. Fans immediately stormed the court to celebrate with the players and coaches.
