Miami sailing making its case for varsity status

Across the United States (US), there are 276 universities with a sailing program. Miami’s sailing team is climbing the ranks and currently sits in the top 25 with three national medals in the last four years.

The University of Miami Women’s Basketball team had a historic run at this year’s March Madness tournament, making it all the way to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. The 'Canes started the tournament as a ninth-seeded team, but still managed to knock off top-seeded Indiana, pull off a 17-point comeback against Oklahoma, and top Villanova in the final seconds of the Sweet Sixteen. They met their match when they faced off against the LSU Lady Tigers where they lost 54-42, with LSU going on to ultimately win the tournament. The ‘Canes left Greenville with their heads held high, knowing there are big things to come for Miami Basketball. The 'Canes women's basketball defeated Villanova to advance to their first ever Elite Eight on Friday, Mar. 24. It was a rollercoaster of a game; Miami was up by 21 after the half, and then they were down with less than 40 seconds on the clock. The team was strategic and precise, ultimately defeating the Wildcats to continue dancing at the Bon Secours Arena in Greenville, S.C. They were up 21 points at the start of the third, then they were down with less than a minute on the clock. Sophomore guard Jasmyne Roberts sank a floater, got fouled, and then hit two free throws to bring the ninth-seeded Miami Hurricanes back into the lead against fourth-seeded Villanova with 37 seconds left on the clock.

They’re dancing and advancing. The Miami Hurricanes are elite. March 26 will be the first time in program history that Miami women’s basketball will play in the Elite Eight. At 7 p.m., the ninth-seeded ‘Canes will face off against third-seeded LSU at the Bon Secours Arena for a spot in the Final Four in Dallas next weekend.
