Miami men’s tennis (9-1) is now the winner of its last four matches. On Saturday afternoon, the Hurricanes faced off against the Liberty Flames (3-5) for their second match in two days.
The final match wound up coming from the anchor of the team, Dan Martin. The graduate student, ranked No. 117, won his match and achieved the final singles victory, 7-5, 6-3. His opponent, Carlos Sarrio, battled hard, fending off three consecutive match points, but eventually succumbed to Martin’s deadly precision.
The second match against Mercer began at 3 p.m., and it was a dominant performance for the Canes. Miami adjusted from its earlier doubles defeat, winning on courts one and two, 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.
“With the week we have, this is a heck of a win,” Miami head coach Katie Meier said. “Anytime you win by double-digits on the road in the ACC, I don’t care who your opponent is, that is a huge win.”
