“It was a good meet today. Lots of good energy,” head swimming coach Andy Kershaw said to Miami Athletics. “The things I love about this is it really gives us a chance to evaluate the things we’re doing well and what we can improve on. There’s things to improve on, but we did a lot of things really well.”
The University of Miami women’s volleyball team suffered its first defeat of the season, 3-1, on Friday night to the University of Illinois Chicago Flames at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida. The Hurricanes played the Flames close throughout the night, but the UIC offense proved to be too strong.
The Hurricane volleyball team has continued its hot start to the 2022 season with a close win against the Weber State Wildcats (4-2) in Las Vegas. After the two teams split the opening sets, Miami put on a dominant performance to close out the match, 3-1.
"Today’s match was a great start to the weekend. St. John’s is a very physical and experienced team, so we had a good plan going into the match," head coach Jose "Keno" Gandara said. "We served well and put the pressure on them from the serving line, which simplified things for our defense."
Already down the doubles point, and with only two of Miami’s singles players winning their opening sets, the match looked hopeless. No. 45 South Florida (14-11) had a clear path to victory, needing just three of the four courts they were up on to advance. The Hurricanes (17-9) found themselves in an all-too-familiar hole.
Miami men’s tennis (16-9, 5-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) won a thrilling match against Georgia Tech (10-13, 3-9 ACC) only a week prior. This time around, however, history would not repeat itself.
Miami (16-8, 5-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) won another close contest against the Clemson Tigers (11-13, 2-10 ACC) to finish the regular season on a high note.
No. 30 Miami (15-8, 4-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) traveled to Atlanta Thursday afternoon to face off against the No. 58 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-12, 3-8 ACC). UM was coming off two emotional losses the previous weekend and had to dig deep to get another crucial ACC win.
