Miami quarterback Darian Mensah was named ACC Quarterback of the Week on Monday after a record-setting performance against Wake Forest.
The Hurricanes took down the Demon Deacons 33-20 on Friday night, Sept. 18 to remain undefeated on the season.
Mensah led the way for the Canes, completing 30 of 34 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
He started the game by completing his first 24 passes, setting an ACC single-game record for consecutive completions. The previous record of 18 was set by Virginia’s Michael Rocco in 2012 and later matched by North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
Mensah also completed his final 11 passes against Florida A&M in Miami’s previous game. Combined with his start against Wake Forest, Mensah completed 35 consecutive passes across the two games, setting another ACC record and falling just one completion shy of the overall NCAA record.
The win improved Miami to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in ACC play.
Mensah’s record-breaking night continued a strong start to his first season with the Hurricanes. Through three games, he has completed 71 of 79 passes for an FBS-leading 89.9% completion rate. He has also thrown 11 touchdown passes without an interception.
His 229.1 passer rating ranks third in the FBS.
Mensah entered the season as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year after transferring to Miami from Duke. Through his first three games with the Hurricanes, he has lived up to those preseason expectations with one of the most efficient starts by a quarterback in college football.
