Miami soccer’s dominant 3-0 victory away at FAU last Sunday demonstrated a performance that was absent in their fall 2025 campaign. Such proficiency in front of goal continued into Miami’s away trip to Arkansas on Thursday, resulting in a 3-0 victory against Little Rock.
The Hurricanes displayed an unrelenting intensity going forward, exemplified by Zoie Fontenot continually driving at the Trojans’ defense. Such attacking intent resulted in Fontenot finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute as she dropped her shoulder, left the Little Rock center-half on the floor, and struck back across her body into the bottom left.
Miami maintained its control of the game throughout the remainder of the first half, outshooting Little Rock 9-0, with two of the Canes shots being on target.
And the Hurricanes’ momentum did not subside with the halftime whistle. Three minutes into the second half, a lofty corner kick found Crosby Nicholson at the back post, who headed the ball back across the six-yard box for a tap-in for Miami’s No. 7, Caroline Hood.
More than seven minutes later, a ball over the top found Kambryl Armstrong, who took a small touch into space, setting herself up nicely for a composed goal into the bottom right corner, giving the Canes a 3-0 lead.
The freshman-forward duo of Fontenot and Armstrong netted their second goals of the 2026 campaign, highlighting a newfound firepower in the Canes frontline. This goalscoring ability, alongside the everpresent technical quality of Teegan Melenhorst in midfield, has proved to be a point of confidence for Hurricanes soccer fans as the team approaches the beginning of their ACC season.
Strong performances also arrived through former Brighton and Hove Albion player Dami Atinaro, Nicholson, and Ciara Alarcon.
Little Rock’s two total shots made it easy for Atlee Olofson and Aubrey Haesche to keep a clean sheet, while Miami’s tally of eight corners to Little Rock’s one illustrates a dominance up the pitch that bodes well for the Hurricanes.
The final score makes this game Miami’s second consecutive 3-0 victory of the season, as the team hopes rolls over into their next match against Lipscomb in Nashville on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m.
