The No. 24 University of Miami volleyball team (11-1, 1-0 ACC) opened conference play in commanding fashion, sweeping Georgia Tech (5-5, 0-1 ACC) on Friday night at the O’Keefe Gymnasium.
The Hurricanes controlled the game, with 43 kills, 32 digs, 11 blocks and seven aces, showing dominance on both offense and defense throughout the match. Miami’s seniors set the tone, with Flormarie Heredia Colon tallying 15 kills, and Dalia Wilson anchoring both ends with 10 kills and seven blocks. Redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and five aces, being a staple piece in Miami’s fast paced attack.
Miami had the tone set early, with eight team blocks to edge out a tight first set, 26-24. The Hurricanes carried that momentum into set two, hitting .571 as Heredia Colon recorded six of her 15 kills to fuel a dominant 25-14 win. Ava Carney and Amina N’Diaye contributed key kills during an opening run, while on defense, Naylani Feliciano helped steady the back row with several critical digs.
Rodriguez’s serving powered Miami again in the third, as her three early aces built a cushion the Hurricanes never relinquished. The Yellow Jackets struggled to find rhythm offensively, hitting just .154 in the final set, while Miami’s efficiency and balanced attack closed out the match with a 25-20 victory.
The Hurricanes extended their winning streak to 11, and picked up their first ACC victory so far this season.
Miami continues their road trip Sunday against Clemson, where they look to keep their winning streak alive.
