Saturday and Sunday inside Doak Field at Dail Park represented two gritty wins for a Miami team that appeared to have lost a significant amount of momentum after what had transpired in both the series loss to Virginia Tech and the 11-5 opener to NC State on Friday.
Freshman first baseman CJ Kayfus hit a leadoff home run in the top of the eighth inning, and No. 6 Miami (4-4, 2-3 ACC) defeated No. 24 NC State (4-5, 1-4 ACC) 6-4 in the second game of the series.
Carrying a three-game win streak to Greensboro, N.C. — the second longest active win streak in the conference — Miami (11-11, 8-11 ACC) was prepared to battle Virginia Tech (13-8, 8-8 ACC) having after falling to the Hokies by 20 points at home on Feb. 11.
Miami sophomore guard Isaiah Wong scored a game-high 28 points, though his individual performance was not enough for the Hurricanes’ first victory in three and a half weeks, as Miami (7-15, 3-13 ACC) fell to Clemson (15-5, 9-5 ACC) 66-58 at Littlejohn Coliseum.
