UM student Marcus Sharf opens sneaker store in the Grove

From Yeezy slides to the CPFM Dunks, Coconut Grove’s newest sneaker store, Hÿp, features an expansive inventory of rare, collectible and popular shoes. In an area with few sneaker stores, Hÿp stands out. It’s also run by a University of Miami student.

Learning and serving: UM’s Civic Scholars program

UM’s Civic Scholars program is a curriculum that guides students to become involved in their community through both service and in their education. Students who enroll in the Civic Scholars program complete three co-curricular service and leadership development experiences, four civic service learning courses, a reflection seminar and a capstone project.

On Friday May 13, 2022, University of Miami students will take the stage at the annual Spring Commencement Ceremony for the culmination of their career at the university. Patrick McCaslin is a junior from Philadelphia studying mathematics, computer science and political science. He joined the Hurricane within his first few days at UM and has been a writer and co-news editor since joining. His best known stories include a report on proposed construction of a UM football stadium at Tropical Park and an investigation into a UM fraternity's misogynistic chant. Outside of the Hurricane, Patrick is usually running, reading, or having a conversation, all preferably at the beach.
