Shane Shakoor on Black creativity and freedom of expression

While Shakoor’s main gig is leading the Black Creatives Collective (BCC) as president, he’s also been the Creative and Art Director for Gravity Magazine and an editor and co-producer for UMTV. Add his status as a Hammond scholar, a semester abroad in Brazil and internships with NBCUniversal, NASDAQ and Paramount Pictures. It must be difficult fitting these experiences on a one-page resume.

Shorts Miami Film Festival celebrates independent filmmakers

“The mission of the festival resonates really well with the vision we have for our school,” Karin Wilkins, the Dean of the UM School of Communications, said in her opening remarks. “It begins with promoting and celebrating quality creative production and also contributing to community connection and fostering significant social impact.”

Frost student Carlo Redl drops first EP “Empty”

Redl, a junior studying music business and entertainment industries with minors in jazz and marketing, released the studio project on Oct. 14. His first-ever EP after being a featured artist on multiple songs, the singer/songwriter channels a variety of genres including pop, R&B, jazz, rock and indie.

Redl is a student in the Frost School of Music majoring in music business and entertainment industries with minors in jazz and marketing. Some may recognize him from ‘Canes Carnival last spring, where he sang a duet with fellow Frost musician Chad Nelson. Now, he’s opening for one of the biggest names in music with a set of his own.

Layomi Adeojo

Layomi Adeojo is a senior from Leesport, Pa. double majoring in psychology & English literature and minoring in creative writing. She started writing for The Hurricane as a freshman and is excited to return as the Arts & Entertainment Editor. Involved in campus life, Layomi is also a President’s 100 Tour Guide, a Dean’s Ambassador, a leader in Inspire U Academy and a research assistant with the SHINE lab. As A&E editor, she looks forward to uniting her love for people, storytelling and the arts.
