Takeaways: The first few days of fall football practice

University of Miami’s Fall football camp has officially begun. The Hurricanes rushed the Greentree practice fields on Friday to start the first of 25 scheduled practices before Miami opens the season against Bethune-Cookman at Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 3. As of Monday afternoon, the ‘Canes have finished their third day of fall training. Here are some highlights and takeaways from the first few days:

With another season of Hurricane athletics comes another year jam packed with mind-blowing, jump-out-of-your-seat-and-run-around moments; fans packing Hard Rock Stadium and blowing the roof off the place with fire extinguishers; everyone throwing up “the U” and students saving cats from their impending doom. Here are some of the most exciting Hurricanes to watch this fall.

Four-star ATH Robert Stafford commits to Miami

“It’s a real dynasty over there,” Stafford said on the livestream. “My play style, everything I do, [fits with] the Miami Hurricanes … I feel like coach [Mario] Cristobal is doing something special over there.”

Isaiah Wong returning to Miami for 2022-23 season

“Isaiah is truly one of the finest guards in the history of our program, as well as an excellent young man and a superb representative of our University,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said in a Miami Athletics press release. “My coaches, players and I are all excited Isaiah has made the decision to come back to Coral Gables. The pre-draft experience was, once again, quite valuable for him and we will continue to do all we can to help him reach his goal of playing in the NBA.”

“I’m just so proud of them. I’m proud of the success they’ve had,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I’m proud of their seasons in singles and doubles, [as well as] just as people. I think they have a little sour taste in their mouths, but they have a lot to be proud of and we’re, obviously, very proud of them.”

Richardson and Achong advance to NCAA title game

“All tournament, even if they haven’t won all of the big points, they’ve been playing the big points well,” Yaroshuk-Tews shared. “They’ve been playing the big points aggressively and, typically when you do that, it leads to good endings and good things. I think they were able to do that today. They stayed aggressive, they stayed true to their game and it worked out for them.”

“I thought we were pretty incredible,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We were attacking returns, we were shutting down the middle, we were using the lob and line when we had to. I think, tennis-wise, we looked great.”

“They just really stuck together,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I think that Daev’s moves at the net have just been phenomenal, yesterday and today. I think that, as the match progressed, Eden’s play just kept getting better. She started returning aggressively. Honestly, [both of them were] just committed. [They were] committed to their plays and to their strategy from the beginning.”
