Students traveled around the world with COISO to Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia, learning about the beauty in different cultures but also on the unity that ties all humans together.
“I was often the only woman in the room,” Rep. Donna Shalala (D-Florida) said when reflecting on her storied career as an academic, government official and prominent female figure.
“You stand out with enthusiasm and with a smile, but also with working hard. That’s what I did my whole career,” Rep. Shalala told students. “And I had a sense of humor, that helps.”

In tune with University of Miami tradition, representatives from several student organizations competed Oct. 29 for a spot on the 2018 homecoming court during the annual King and Queen Pageant. Contestants participated in choreographed dances, performed themed homecoming skits and showed off their special talents, all with the hopes of being crowned a member of the homecoming court.
