Halloween is just around the corner and the costume panic is real. Choosing a Halloween costume can be a difficult task, especially for students who need at least three costumes for the entire Halloweekend.
Don’t know what to wear? Here are some timeless options students have worn throughout the years.
Ladies first:
- Bunny

A bunny is a popular costume every year. This costume is easy and has many variations, including just a plain bunny, an Alice in Wonderland bunny, a bunny and the magician (which is now also an Off Campus reference), Legally Blonde bunny, the list goes on.
Theresa Luu, a UM student, said she chose it because it was “convenient and cute,” a goal many people share when searching for a costume.
It is a safe pick and a classic choice, but don’t be shocked when you meet your bunny twin at the party.
- Men in Black

Even though corsets are often used, there are also costumes that don’t require them.
Beatrice Quaglia, a UM student, and her friends chose a cool approach to Halloween costumes. Using black suits from their closets, plus toy guns and badges, they became “Men in Black.”
If you’re short on ideas, this could also be reused as an FBI agent costume.
- Little Bo Peep and her sheep
While people usually pair Little Bo Peep with Jessie or Woody from Toy Story, Gracen Halm and her friends took a different approach.
“I chose this costume because it was really simple and last-minute and cheap. Everything’s from Amazon,” she said.
If you’re short on time and looking for an affordable option that will arrive within days, this is a good solution.
- Leopard and Black Cat

Animal costumes are a popular choice among UM students too. The black cat also pops up every year, and UM is no exception. Maybe because they remind us of the many black cats that walk around campus every day.
“Because I look good in leopard print,” was student Gemma Granato’s argument. It’s honestly the best reason on this list. Halloween costumes are mostly about looking good and feeling confident.
- The Chipettes
Putting a fresh twist on the classic animal costume, Avery Stewart and her friends decided to be The Chipettes since “it was just the three of [them] and [they] kinda look like them, especially [their] heights.”
The female characters from Alvin and the Chipmunks make a great group costume that even boys could match.
Now for the men:
- Alvin and the Chipmunks

Sometimes men and women have the same idea. Ellison Abromowitz, a UM student, said that he and his friends chose it because “it was a fun role [he] could play with [his] friends.”
This is also an easy costume for men because it only requires basic clothing in a specific color and letters you can just add with tape or fabric glue.
- Hamburger and a bear

While this is an unusual pairing, UM student Jamie Cohen’s explanation is logical: “I chose this costume because I was going to a Halloween party and had to choose a last-minute costume at my local Spirit Halloween.”
Spirit Halloween is the answer to your last-minute problems, there’s one located conveniently close to the South Miami Metro Station.
- Some movie..?

Luke Bloodworth and his friend, both UM students, chose a niche movie. “I chose it because it was from a cool movie that most people wouldn’t recognize.”
Which movie? Bloodworth left the costumes open for interpretation.
- Skeleton
This is another easy costume that requires just one piece of clothing. UM student Shawn Lobo said he chose it because “it was last-minute, and there was a Halloween party.”
Tinker Bell and Peter Pan are also a great couple’s costume option.
- Cowboys

With clothes and accessories that are already in your closet, you can do what UM students Ari Kalish and his friend did. The cowboy is a classic that is guaranteed to always look good.
While the bandana is a good addition, with just the hat everyone will know what you are dressed as.
Whether you’re planning your costume weeks in advance or putting something together an hour before a party, UM students show there are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween in costume.
